checking into corsica

not sure what i was doing when i booked all our holidays for the year within the first 6 months, but i did.

so after a week of being back in the uk, we hopped on another flight to the pretty island of corsica. a quick layover in munich and we were finally on island time with frank’s parents.

  • fun fact, napolean bonaparte was corsican.
  • the corsicans love their goats, their goat cheese, their goat meat, they love it all.
  • it’s also home to the GR20, one of europe’s toughest hiking trails spanning 180kms.
  • although being a french territory, they’ve got their own language called corsu (a mix of italian from when they were ruled by the genoes + french)

we stayed in a small beach village called santa lucia di moriani – a short drive from the bastia airport. our air bnb was bliss, 1 minute to your north was the beach, 30 minutes to your south were the mountains where we spent a few pasta heavy afternoons hiking.

in hindsight and for our next trip here, we would probably get a place on the west coast where the best beaches are more accessible. the east coast is stunning and is better if you want to explore the mountain range.

we had a few football nights too which meant barbecue dinners. being in france (through technicality) meant taking the euros seriously. and of course, the fact that the boyfriend’s nation was “competing”. we love you czechia.

there were dogs and cats everywhere, which reminded me so much of sri lanka. i would’ve travelled here solely to dog watch.

we spent our first few days doing just that.
