& just like that 10 days have whizzed by?!
the worst part of it all is leaving without a return ticket, knowing our schedules, work and just life i doubt we’ll be back before 2025 but that’s just how it goes!
we spent the last few days with a little staycation in the city, woke up to views like this

ate food like this, nothing and i mean nothing beats an international breakfast buffet – croissants, cold cuts, curry, noodles, fruits, spring rolls all in 1 meal, yes please.

if you haven’t tried the sri lankan cuisine yet, i must ask that you do. you have to find a good place that’s been reviewed by locals to get the real deal and you’ve been warned, it will be a little spicy. some staples include
- 🍚 “kiribath” – directly translating to milk rice, it’s a rice pudding made from coconut milk typically enjoyed with a spice mix called “lunu miris” or sugar
- 🦀 “kottu” or crab kottu if you get a hold of it. it’s essentially a stir fry with curried roti, veggies, meat and eggs.
- 🍛 my favorite curries – pumpkin, prawn, dhal, jackfruit
- 🍳“lamprais” as seen in the picture below. it’s a rice dish with a couple side dishes (curries, meat, a salad) wrapped in a banana leaf

we had days by the pool, lunch at local cafe which we loved – cafe kumbuk, played dress up where i finally got to wear my saree 💃🏽 and mr frank his suit 🥹

yes i’ve noticed that most of what i do consists of consuming food and no i wouldn’t change it for the world!

last days are always tough, we packed and spent the day visiting my aunts and uncles. funny thing is we all live in the same little village so everyone i grew up visiting during my childhood summers are a maximum of 10 minutes away from our house. one of my aunt’s (she raised me during the first 2 years of my life because my mom was denied maternity leave!) has this habit of cooking my sister and i our favorite shrimp dish of hers. she then packs it into old ice cream boxes, tapes it shut and gives it to us to eat in memory of her for the first few weeks after we’ve flown back 😦 it’s all very sad.
mom, dad and sister were staying for a few more days so frank and i packed up, said our goodbyes and left back to london. we’re there for 3 days before we pack up and head to prague – having something to look forward to definitely makes it all easier.
i’ll see you in prague,
